If you’re looking for the best baseball simulation on PC and Mac, look no further than OOTP 20 by Out of the Park Baseball. Last year’s version was given a 4.31 review score by our own Alessandro Seren Rosso.
This year’s version, due March 22, 2019, seems to be jammed packed with new features that should have baseball fans salivating for some hardcore simulation action. Before we get to the new features, Out of the Park Baseball has already stated that this year’s version will have improved AI, new integrated live services and Perfect Team 2.0.
One major feature will be OOTP 20 featuring Live Services for MLB Rosters. What this means is that you can start a new MLB game any day during the season (regular and post) with official up to date rosters, standings and stats.
Roster sets are also being tweaked a bit. This year’s sets will include all projected Opening Day MLB rosters and a complete minor league system. Out of the Park Developments mentions that they’ll be covering rookie leagues and even independent leagues. Sign me up for some Cape Cod Baseball League, y’all.
Player ratings are also getting a change. This year, all Major League player ratings (and over a thousand minor league players per Out of the Park Developments) will be based on Dan Szymborski’s ZiPS player projection system.
The game will also feature 12 international league, which includes four new leagues from Germany, France, Spain and the Czech Republic.
Animations are also getting a major upgrade this year. Out of the Park Developments said they’ve created a ton of new animations. New this year are diving plays, shoestring catches and hitters celebrating a walk-off. Unfortunately, they have noted that a bat flip creator isn’t included.
Shame.
Perfect Team is back in what the team is calling “Perfect Team 2.0”. Our very own Chris Studley wrote about OOTP 19’s Perfect Team mode. I would suggest giving it a read before moving on. Out of the Park Developments stated that over 12,000 total teams competed in last year’s mode. OOTP 20’s Perfect Team 2.0 will have over 3,200 more player cards and include tournaments, collection missions, a much-improved auction house and more achievements.
