April 15, 2022 marks the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers, thus breaking the baseball color barrier. Every year, MLB celebrates this day with festivities during all games, which includes having all players wear Robinson’s number 42. This year, MLB The Show 22 is also celebrating this historic anniversary with some exciting new content.
MLB The Show: Jackie Robinson Day Player Program
Just like in real life, all players in MLB The Show 22 will be wearing number 42 on April 15. MLB players have done so to honor Jackie Robinson since 2004. Diamond Dynasty players will be able to complete the new Jackie Robinson Day players program. This program rewards players with an 88 overall Jackie Robinson card, along with #42 bat skin, socks, and bat grip equipment items.
Jackie Robinson Foundation Pack
San Diego Studios will also offer a Jackie Robinson Foundation pack. The company partnered with the Foundation, as well as Sony Interactive Entertainment, The Players Association and Major League Baseball. This pack can be bought on US digital platforms (PlayStation and Microsoft Stores, and Nintendo eShop). The pack is priced at $4.99, and all proceeds from the pack will be donated directly to the JRF. The pack gives players 5,000 stubs, the equivalent for the price of the pack. Players also receive a bat skin and two Jackie Robinson themed profile icons. This pack will be available through April 29th.
The Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) was established in 1973 by Robinson’s widow Rachel to honor the memory of Jackie. The JRF helps to provide scholarships and leadership development programs for minority college students across the country. Participants in the JRF’s Scholars Program receive up to $30,000 over four years and also receive assistance with job placement, career discernment, and leadership development.
