Last week, MLB The Show 23 got another seasonal refresh for Diamond Dynasty. The new Season 4 update brings tons of content to the mode, even if all of it isn’t that impressive. The new update includes the fourth Team Affinity set, new collections, and yet another amazing card locked behind the Chase Pack.
MLB The Show 23 Season 4 Update Adds Style But Lacks Substance
Season 4 Reward Path
The new season includes a brand new seasonal reward path. This newest path includes a Choice Pack with six 97 OVR bosses. Along with this are two 99 OVR cards that are guaranteed in the reward path. These two cards are part of the new Snapshot Series that was introduced with Season 4. The Season 4 reward path with give you the Max Fried and Jim Rice Snapshot Series 99 OVR cards.
There is one more thing to work towards in the Season 4 Reward Path. The Season 4 XP Path Boss Choice Pack includes 99 OVR bosses. There are five players in the pack, and you will be able to earn three through the end of the path. These five bosses are:
- Snapshot Series Orioles 3B Manny Machado
- Snapshot Series Phillies SP Cliff Lee
- Milestone Series Dodgers CP Eric Gagne
- Awards Series Marlins RF Giancarlo Stanton
- Milestone Series Cubs SS Ernie Banks
Team Affinity 4
The fourth Team Affinity set has also arrived in Diamond Dynasty. This set has a similar structure to Team Affinity 3. This means that the bosses in Team Affinity are only 97 OVR. This is somewhat disappointing to still be grinding so much for only 97 OVR cards. The redeeming part of this set is the collection rewards. These include captains that boost the Team Affinity cards, as well as some 99 OVR cards that might make the grind worth it for some players. Along with the bosses and collection rewards, Team Affinity includes several Legends and Flashbacks to add to your squad, as well as packs and equipment.
Set 4 Collection
Along with the Team Affinity 4 Collection, there is also a new Set 4 Collection. This collection includes some of the best Set 4 cards we will see. The milestones players need to reach to get these rewards also seem to be lower compared to previous set collections. Previously, players needed to collect 300 cards in a set to get all the rewards. For Set 4, players only need to collect 260 cards to get all the rewards in the Set 4 Collection.
The Set 4 Collection includes several 99 OVR players from the new Snapshot Series. It also includes a Set 4 Collection Choice Pack. This Choice Pack has the three best Set 4 cards in the game. These cards are:
- Milestone Series Athletics 1B Jimmie Foxx
- Awards Series Guardians SP Corey Kluber
- Snapshot Series Red Sox RF Mookie Betts
Ranked Seasons Program 6
The sixth Ranked Seasons program is now in Diamond Dynasty. Players can now battle their way to World Series rating or complete objectives to earn the World Series reward pack. This season, the World Series reward pack includes
- Kaiju Series Red Sox SS Trevor Story (99 OVR)
- Snapshot Series Mets C Gary Carter (99 OVR)
- Awards Series Dodgers SP Zack Greinke (99 OVR)
All Sets II Event
The newest Event in Diamond Dynasty is the All Sets II Event. This event lets players use players from all sets that have been in the game so far. However, your maximum team rating is 88 OVR. The rewards for this event are:
- 5 wins: Snapshot Series Astros CP Ryan Pressly (95 OVR)
- 20 wins: Prime Series Braves C Joe Torre (97 OVR)
- 12 wins in one entry: Awards Series Orioles CF Cedric Mullins (99 OVR)
New Packs
There are a couple of new packs in The Show Shop. First, the newest Chase Pack is now available. The newest Chase Pack features 99 OVR Milestone Mike Trout. This is yet another example of the most sought after and wanted cards in the game being locked behind the Chase Pack. Many players have voiced displeasure with the fact that fan favorites like Ken Griffey Jr., Mickey Mantle, and now Mike Trout have all had their best cards locked behind this pack.
The pack was originally supposed to be a fun topper with a fun card in it. Now, it seems to be used as a way to force players to open up their wallets if they want their favorite player’s best card. The Chase Pack artificially inflates the value of a card due to how rare the card is and how expensive a Chase Pack can be. The Chase Pack is also the only pack in the game where the odds are not listed in The Show Shop. It may be time for SDS to reevaluate how they are using the Chase Pack in Diamond Dynasty.
The 34th Diamond Duos pack is also now available in The Show Shop. This pack includes Future Stars Druw Jones (99 OVR) and Snapshot Series Nestor Cortes Jr. (99 OVR).
