Sony Extends Partnership with MLB and MLBPA, MLB The Show Coming to Xbox and Switch

MLB-The-Show

Today, Sony San Diego and PlayStation announced multi-year partnership extensions with the MLB and MLBPA. This guarantees the company will continue making MLB The Show moving forward. Additionally, the joint announcement also brings news that The Show won’t just be on PlayStation in the future. As early as 2021, MLB The Show will be on Xbox and Nintendo, and possibly on Stadia, PC or other platforms. Here’s everything we know so far.

SONY EXTENDS PARTNERSHIP WITH MLB & MLBPA

According to a press release, “Major League Baseball (MLB), the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and San Diego Studio jointly announced today that they have entered into multi-year extensions to continue development and distribution of MLB The Show, the award-winning officially licensed video game.”

MLB THE SHOW COMING TO XBOX & SWITCH

As early as 2021, MLB The Show will be joining new consoles and platforms. With Xbox Scarlett set to drop next holiday season, this means MLB The Show 21 would be the first title eligible for such a change. Of course, there’s no guarantee it gets done in time for MLBTS 21. Here’s how Xbox and Nintendo reacted to the news on Twitter.

Complete details on all new platforms will be announced at a later date, but we can safely assume Xbox and Nintendo are locks based on their Twitter feeds.

With a new console generation debuting in the next calendar year, there was no need to rush a multi-platform endeavor like this. MLB The Show 20 with cover athlete Javier Baez will release on March 13, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
