“2K has restored the NBA 2K14 servers and all online services. Beginning today, we are extending the support of all NBA 2K servers from 18 to 27 months following each release, giving our players more time to experience and enjoy the highest rated NBA simulation video game franchise. The opinions of our community continue to have a positive impact on our business decisions as we strive to create the best possible experience for all of our fans.”

ORIGINAL STORY:

2k sports told gamers they would be able to continue their MyCareer game mode with their created players despite servers and online support being shut down on March 31st 2015, roughly 16 months after initial release of the game. It was believed that the save files required to check in online, would be converted to offline save files, enabling players to continue their progress in their careers respectively.
The only thing that would change, according to 2k Sports, would be instead of earning VC (the VC infrastructure also shut down on March 31st) players would now be earning SP or Skill Points to continue upgrading their players.

However all this turned out to be false as 2K Support has responded to multiple gamers in the 2k forums wondering about the inability to load their MyCareer save files.

They are quoted as saying:

“This means that if you had created a MyCareer or a MyGM online save file that was once connected to our servers it too sadly has retired and is no longer available for use and it would be necessary to re-create these files as offline saves.”

They continue by saying:
” Sadly this may come as an inconvenience to some of you and if so we truly do understand and can feel for how upsetting this may seem as there always is a special bond that occurs between a player and their MyCareer save but all good things must come to an end and rest assured your MyCareer or MyGM went out while on top!”

With the server shutdown it makes gamers wonder if an “always connected” game is a good approach considering the only game modes available to play are quick matches and career mode. This of course, is assuming you want to start completely over. Perhaps a year to year saves feature much like MLB 15 The Show implemented this year would add longevity to the NBA 2K franchise.

Let us know what you think about the server shutdown or how it has affected you. As always please “Like” share and comment below and stay tuned to SGO for all the latest in sports gaming.
