NBA 2K League and Monumental S&E to Host Upcoming 2023 Season

This week, it was announced that the NBA 2K League has partnered with DC-based Monumental Sports & Entertainment to host the upcoming 2023 season. Along with the partnership comes a few changes to the venue and the format for the upcoming season. Check out the details below.

NBA 2K League partners & Monumental S&E host 2023 season

The 2023 season is set to take place at the brand-new District E venue. MSE is the parent company of the Capitals, the Wizards, and the WNBA Mystics as well as invest in Team Liquid. Before now, the NBA 2K League operated out of Indianapolis and New York, the latter of which hosted four consecutive seasons. According to Monumental President of Media, Zach Leonsis, the new venue can comfortably hold a couple of hundred fans, and additionally, the 2K League schedule is being closely aligned with Wizards games and weekend afternoon time slots to increase foot traffic to the venue.

Aside from the venue change, this season’s format also sees a few changes. The 2K League season will be divided into two 3v3 and 5v5 “halves,” with the 3v3 portion sponsored by Coinbase. In addition, league partners AT&T, Sony, and Snickers will have live venues and online activations for the events. The 3v3 portion begins in March and runs until May, with the 5v5 portion beginning in May and running until August. Donohue states last season’s playoff was also broadcast on NBA TV with over two million unique viewers watching the Finals online. With District E’s title sponsor, Ticketmaster, the league plans to offer $2.5M in total prize pool spread across both halves.
