NBA 2K19 is once again the dominant basketball game, and its MyTEAM mode is one of the most popular. This year in particular, it’s more possible than ever to be competitive online without putting thousands of dollars into the game.
Here’s a list of ten players that are perfect fits for a ‘no money spent’ squad. Many of these players will be cheaper than 1,000 MT, meaning they are affordable for anyone.
Jrue Holiday, PG, New Orleans Pelicans – 84 OVR
Holiday is a defensive gem. With 89 on-ball defensive IQ, this 6’4″ combo guard can cover both guard spots and possibly some power forwards. Jrue is also money from mid-range. All three of his mid-range shot ratings are 87 or higher.
Al Horford, C, Boston Celtics – 85 OVR
Horford is one of the most underrated players in real life, and it’s much of the same on the game. Big Al is a true defensive stopper in the post, with low post defensive IQ and shot contest ratings of 88. Horford can also hit from mid-range and from deep, although you’ll need to adjust to his awkward jumper if you’ve never used him before.
Rudy Gobert, C, Utah Jazz – 84 OVR
Rudy Gobert is a pure rim protector. This card boasts high block (86), shot contest (89) and low post defensive IQ (90) ratings. If your power forward is a stretch four or a weak defender in general, a player like Gobert could be a big help in protecting the painted area.
Kyle Lowry, PG, Toronto Raptors – 84 OVR
Kyle Lowry is a true point guard, something every MyTEAM needs. With 85 speed and 86 ball control, he simply won’t get ripped very often. Lowry offers solid defense and can shoot from deep (80 open shot three). The only downside? He’s just 6′ tall.
Jason Richardson, SG, Charlotte Bobcats – 83 OVR
Despite being the only card on this list that’s below a sapphire level, Jason Richardson will likely be the most expensive. Part of the historic series, Richardson is an offensive juggernaut. He’s 6’6″, can shoot from anywhere, and is a force when driving to the hoop. J-Rich has 84 driving dunk and 75 contact dunk. This card is currently sitting at a little over 3,000 MT.
Jaylen Brown, SG, Boston Celtics – 84 OVR
Brown is a freakish athlete and a great defender. At 6’7″, he can stop both guard positions and small forwards, and possibly even some undersized power forwards. He’s also competent on offense. Brown has a 79 open shot three to go with an 82 driving dunk.
Kevin Love, PF, Cleveland Cavaliers – 85 OVR
Love is a capable scorer both inside and out. He has generous post hook (86) and post fadeaway (87) ratings, can hit threes (81 open shot three) and is a solid rebounder. Love fits most rosters and schemes, and would pair nicely with a defensive center, such as Gobert.
Draymond Green, PF, Golden State Warriors – 86 OVR
In MyTEAM, you’re allotted 13 roster spots. Why not use one on a defensive ace? Green is poor on offense, but is one of the best on-ball defenders in the game. He offers an 89 shot contest rating and 88 strength. More importantly, all four defensive IQ ratings are 88 or higher. For less than 1,000 MT, he’s worth the addition if you need a clutch stop on defense.
Gordon Hayward, SF, Boston Celtics – 86 OVR
Hayward is a solid all-around player in MyTEAM this year. He is a capable shooter from any distance, plays decent defense and has no weaknesses. At right around 1,000 MT, you can do a lot worse.
Jayson Tatum, SF, Boston Celtics – 85 OVR
Tatum is a lethal offensive threat. He offers knock-down shooting from any range and can get to the rim at will (84 driving dunk, 80 driving layup). At 6’8″, he’s athletic enough to play shooting guard, small forward, or power forward.
