For the first time in NBA 2K franchise history, they will be releasing an Austrailian-specific cover athlete.

2K Sports announced that Philadelphia 76ers forward and current reigning Rookie of the Year award winner Ben Simmons will adorn the cover of NBA 2K19 in the country. Simmons was born in Melbourne, Australia.

“The Aussie fans are super passionate about basketball and specifically NBA 2K, so it’s very cool to be an ambassador for both,” Simmons said.

The cover will be available to Australia and New Zeland. There will be a double-sided inlay that features 2K19 cover star Giannis Anteokounmpo, should there be any hardcore Bucks fans down under.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that Simmons was named the cover athlete for Australia and New Zealand. Out of all the active Australian born players, Simmonds has one of the most impressive resumes in such a short amount of time. Simmons was drafted first overall by the 76ers in the 2017 Draft after a successful year at LSU.

NBA 2K19 will be available September 11 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The 20th Anniversary Edition will launch a few days earlier, on September 7.
