NBA 2K20 Servers Shutdown 12/31

The statement comes from the NBA 2K support site. It reads as follows;

“As all good things must come to an end, NBA 2K20’s servers will be discontinued as of December 31, 2021.”

“Players will no longer be able to play ranked or online league games. Accordingly, any mode that earns or uses VC will be affected, along with any other online function (such as the MyTEAM mode and online matches against other players).”

NBA 2K server shutdowns are regular occurrences in each cycle. The servers typically shut down around two or three years after release. Despite that, some players still return to the previous games to have a bit of fun before the servers close for good. It has been a regular occurrence with the NBA 2K franchise.

NBA 2K20 was released September 19, 2019, and served as the last entry on current-gen consoles before NBA 2K21. It was the first game of the franchise that included the WNBA, albeit in a limited fashion. In our NBA 2K20 review, we praised it as one of the better entries of the franchise. Despite a tumultuous launch, NBA 2K20 rebounded to be a dark horse favorite amongst the community. It topped the European download sales chart and was nominated for a variety of awards.

At one point, players went back to playing NBA 2K20 because of the reception of NBA 2K21
