We cover many sports titles yearly, but none are as realistic-looking as the NBA 2K series. Every year, 2K developer Visual Concepts works vigorously on its basketball series’ overall presentation, and it shows.
However, with the PS5 and the Xbox Series X’s lifecycle well past the halfway mark, can the game continue to look better every year? We asked 2K Games Digital Marketing Director Ronnie 2K about NBA 2K25‘s visuals and presentations.
NBA 2K25: Graphical Improvements
Sports Gamers Online met up with Ronnie 2K during NBA 2K‘s community day, which took place at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.
In case you missed it, the first set of questions we asked Ronnie was about the improvements to gameplay and 2K’s ProPlay technology. Next, we asked him about the visual enhancements coming to this year’s game.
“You probably saw a lot of the player renders that took a massive step up like in skin tone as well,” Ronnie 2K said. “Kevin Durant was one that pops to my head. He was a little bit. Darker. In our game than he probably is in real life. So those kind of adjustments Jamal, Murray’s beard. I remember was another one. There’s a a lot of An effort to make the likenesses as amazing as possible.”
The NBA 2K series has always been a franchise that improves its authenticity each year. Ronnie continued by praising Visual Concepts for its graphical work on some of the early NBA 2K25 trailers.
Next Question!
We all know how powerful our current console line-up is, but can the graphics and visuals get any better? We asked Ronnie 2K, “Do you feel like the graphics are maxed out for the generation of consoles?”
“I think it’s a tough balance because, like, we’re always thinking about our general visual presentation,” Ronnie said. “Um, I don’t know if the limitations of the console have been maxed. That is probably a question more for Eric in our development team. But um, It, you know, I think that there’s always upside.”
Ronnie discussed how people often confuse real NBA games with their video game counterparts. Overall, Visual Concepts will continue to improve the series in all areas to the best of its abilities, and visuals will always be a part of the game where NBA 2K will shine the most.
NBA 2K25 is out on September 6 and will be available for consoles and PC.
