There’s a very good chance we just received our first look at the next cover athlete for NBA 2K22. On Monday, a picture of Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic streaking across the cover popped up in a tweeted screenshot.
While nothing is confirmed at the time of this article and it could be just a mockup, it’s not out of the realm of possibility for the Slovenian-born forward to grace the 2K22 cover. Especially given the high probability that former Mavs euro-star Dirk Nowitzki will cover the Legends edition of the game. The rumor was all but confirmed by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier a few weeks ago.
This would be the first time that a Dallas Maverick graced the cover of an NBA 2K game. Since being selected third overall in 2018, Doncic wasted no time picking up where future hall-of-famer Nowitzki left off. The 21-year-old phenom has taken the league by storm in his three short years in the association. Doncic has already racked up two All-star appearances, Rookie of the Year, and All-Rookie/All-NBA nods.
It’s also great to see Dirk Nowitzki get his flowers. The 14-time All-Star is the arguably the greatest international player to touch the NBA hardwood, but was never really considered among the league’s most popular stars.
