Earlier today, Chelsea Football Club announced they had extended their licensing deal with Electronic Arts. The partnership between the Chelsea and Electronic Arts has dated back to Chelsea’s 2008/2009 Premier League season. The agreement ensures that the licensing for Chelsea Football Club will remain intact for future FIFA titles.
Chelsea Chief Executive Guy Laurence said: “A partnership between the European champions and the number one sports video game franchise in the world is a natural one and has already benefitted us both greatly.
“At Chelsea, we are excited to see the world-class entertainment that will result both on and off the pitch, through football and gaming, and how it will appeal to the next generation of fans globally, building on the success, we have had together over many years.”
Earlier this year, EA and FIFA’s disagreement on a new deal led to the uncertain future of FIFA titles. While the FIFA ‘name’ won’t be on any projects under EA, the gaming company still owns many licenses to clubs and players like Chelsea. Hence why Electronic Arts aren’t too worried about extending such an expensive license.
FIFA 22
Electronic Arts’ newest football title, FIFA 22, was released on October 1st and garnered good reviews. The game introduced its latest Hypermotion technology to freshen the gameplay for the next generation. Here are some of our thoughts on the game.
FIFA 22’s HyperMotion lays the groundwork for the franchise in the new generation. However, FIFA remains a game that receives minor improvements and still prioritizes Ultimate Team over other popular modes.
