This morning, EA dropped a press release and trailer for Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered. That’s a remaster of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010). Not to be confused with Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit. Maybe just… watch the trailer.

Did that help?

The trailer follows Michael, who is haunted by the memories of a distant time when he could not beat Joseph’s incredible 5:10.42 lap time. Joseph, who seems to know he has ruined Michael’s every waking moment, presents Michael with a gift: a new opportunity. With the delivery of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, Michael finally gets his shot at redemption. At the end of this trailer, we see a classic example of hubris.

Hot Pursuit Remastered: More Speed, Hotter Pursuits

Trailer aside, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered promises a full revamped experience. EA is bringing the world of Seacrest County to the current console generation. The asynchronous multiplayer that haunted Michael returns, though this time it’s cross-platform. The remaster will include all main downloadable content. This includes fan favorites Armed and Dangerous and Lamborghini Untamed. EA promises there will be further updates, as well.

This remaster is yet another attempt to refill the Need for Speed tank. We liked Need for Speed Heat well enough, but previous installments have been less than stellar. EA likes to go back to the Hot Pursuit well whenever it needs to bring positive attention to the franchise. The Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit that is being remastered is a reboot of earlier entries Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit and it’s sequel Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) won critical acclaim, especially for the aforementioned asynchronous multiplayer system, Autolog. It’ll be interesting to see how Autolog holds up a decade after it changed the way asynchronous multiplayer is designed.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC November 6. It launches on the Nintendo Switch a week later on November 13.
