Despite being just a sixth seed in the final tournament bracket, T-Wolves Gaming showed what made them a former NBA 2K League champion, winning the 2021 NBA 2K League “The Tipoff” Tournament on Sunday night. The 2019 Champions defeated 76ers GC 2-1 in their best-of-three finals series.
Game 1 saw T-Wolves Gaming win on a buzzer-beater, 77-74. After 76ers GC evened up the series at a game apiece with a 62-56 win, T-Wolves Gaming brought home the title with a 72-66 win in the decisive Game 3. Shifty Kaii was named tournament MVP after netting 36 points in the Game 3 clincher.
Throughout the tournament, Shifty averaged 22.8 points per game (PPG) along with 4.8 assists per game (APG). Another player who helped T-Wolves Gaming to the title was Slaughter who averaged a double-double throughout the tournament. After the 12 games, Slaughter finished with 15.5 PPG and 12.3 rebounds per game (RPG).
76ers GC center OneWildWalnut was dominant in his own right. Averaging a double-double himself, he led his team to The Tipoff finals by averaging 18.8 PPG and 12.8 RPG. Leading 76ers GC in scoring was Dre who scored 27.6 PPG to go with his 9.9 APG.
By winning the NBA 2K League The Tipoff tournament, T-Wolves Gaming took home $70,000 while 76ers GC netted $50,000. Third- and fourth-place Wizards District Gaming and Magic Gaming each won $20,000.
The 2021 NBA 2K League regular season kicks off Wednesday, May 26th, and runs through August 14.
