After 1 Year, 2K Will Shut Down NFL 2K Playmakers

After being released a year ago, 2K Games will shut down NFL 2K Playmakers this summer.

NFL 2K Playmakers is gone

On June 30, 2025, 2K Games will shut down the servers for its football card game, NFL 2K Playmakers. The game’s official account on X announced that NFL 2K Playmakers will no longer be playable, and players will receive 1,000 tokens as a ‘thank you’.

“We’ve made the decision to sunset NFL 2K Playmakers on June 30, 2025,” the post stated. “After this time, the game’s servers will be shut down and will no longer be playable.”

“As a thank you, we are getting all players 1000 tokens. In-app currency purchases have been deactivated, but you will still be able to use any remaining current through in-game store offers and boosts until the game closes.”

“From the first card pulls, to the final drives, to celebrating unforgettable plays, to debating the best lineups, every play you made helped shape this game. Your passion, feedback, and love for football made NFL 2K Playmakers more than just game-it helped build a community.”

“Thank you for being part of the NFL 2K Playmakers community. We appreciate every one of you.”

NFL 2K Playmakers is a free-to-play card-battling mobile game developed by Cat Daddy Games. While it is a fun card game, it was the only NFL-licensed game from 2K. This gave much hope that there would be a simulation football title down the line.

Another one bites the dust…

With 2K’s football card game coming to an end, it adds another game to the growing list of online sports game closures. In June 2023, the dodgeball game Knockout City closed its online servers due to struggling to retain players. However, fans can still play the game on private servers on PC.
