EA Sports College Football was rumored to launch at some point in 2023, but now it looks like we have an official release date. A new report states that EA Sports’ return to college football video games will be in July 2023.

The news comes via Matt Brown of Extra Points who got the information from an Open Records request made to the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC).
“The CLC told FBS institutions that EA Sports intends to release the new video game in ‘July of 2023’,” Brown said.

The July 2023 release isn’t surprising for anyone who followed the old NCAA Football series. Since NCAA Football 2001, the NCAA Football games launched every July. That was always followed by the Madden NFL release in August.
When it comes to the exact day in July, that information we don’t, and likely won’t, know until early 2023 as the build up to the game really gets into motion.

While posting about the game’s release window, Brown teased more information to come based on the document. He says that he will release “more information consumers will probably be interested in” tomorrow.
If one had to guess on what that information is, it’s likely to be more details on some or most of the schools involved along with possible conference and bowl game information. There is the off chance that specific platforms are mentioned in the document due to colleges likely wanting as much information on the game as possible.
EA Sports College Football will feature over 100 schools when it launches. As of now, however, we know that Notre Dame, Northwestern, Tulane, and Fresno State won’t be a part of the game. The reasoning for the four schools opting out is the lack of NIL agreements that allows student athletes to be paid for use in the game.
With more that two years until launch, the situation is likely to change as the NCAA looks to changing its regulations regarding compensation for athletes.
