NFL Blitz Is Back With NFL Blitz Legends

NFL Blitz is back for fans of the classic Midway franchise. Arcade1Up announced on Monday that it’s releasing NFL Blitz Legends, a new arcade cabinet that features three of the games in the series: NFL Blitz, NFL Blitz ‘99 and NFL Blitz 2000: Gold Edition.

“We could not be more excited to bring NFL Blitz Legends to fans who have been waiting years for the return of this iconic game,” said Scott Bachrach, CEO, Arcade1Up, via press release. “Our team spent the better part of the last two years making sure we both honored the games’ past while bringing it up to today’s modern standards with AAA development efforts in partnership with the NFL and FGA, and I think we’ve achieved that in an unbelievable feat of fun, exciting, action-packed gameplay while reengineering the original game.”

The cabinet is designed to mimic the look of NFL Blitz games of the past found in arcades, standing five feet tall and featuring various legends on the sides of the cabinet. The artwork and gameplay also features retro team logos and uniforms.

The game will feature a number of legends of past games, including Cris Carter (pictured above), Dan Marino, Jerry Rice, Jerome Bettis, and more. The games will also offer online multiplayer via “Wi-Fi multiplayer” as well as leaderboards.

One thing the games won’t have, however, are after-whistle hits and excessive tackles.

“To support the NFL’s current Player Health & Safety initiatives, a specific set of tackles and after-the-whistle hits were removed or edited in the remastered versions of NFL Blitz, NFL Blitz ‘99 and NFL Blitz 2000: Gold Edition while maintaining the level of excitement in the original games.” 

The NFL Blitz Legends cabinet retails for $599.99 and can be preordered on Arcade1Up.com, Best Buy, and Walmart.
