Today, SDS gave us our first look at the changes advertised to be coming to Franchise mode in MLB The Show 25. This includes the new offseason experience that has been teased previously. We also got our first look at new in-game graphics that report on the stories around your league.
Free Agency
In MLB The Show 25, there will be an all new free agency experience during the offseason. Similar to the free agency in March to October, you will now get to select positions you want to target and needs you need to fill. This include things like speed, power, left handed hitting, and more.
Once you select your needs, you can put up to three players in your Big Board. Having players on your Big Board will increase their motivation to sign each week. The higher on your board they are, the bigger the increase.
Throughout the offseason, you will have to decide when is the best time to offer a contract to a player. If you make your offer too soon, the player’s motivation to sign might not be high enough. If you wait to long to make your move, you risk losing out to another team.
Certain free agents will be considered market setters. These are the biggest free agents that set the market for that year. Once these players sign, they create a domino effect around the league.
The quality and construction of your team will also impact if players want to sign with you. Players who want to compete for championships will be less likely to sign with you if you aren’t a good team. Also, if there is already another star player at their position on your team, they will have less motivation to sign with you.
There will also be some key moments throughout the offseason. One could be a free agent is close to signing with another team, and will give you one last chance to increase your offer. Another could be a player who really wants to play for your team reaching out to initiate negotiations with you.
Presentation
We also got a look at some presentation additions coming to MLB The Show 25. New pre-game graphics have been added for each team. There is also a new menu that will show up while loading into a game that gives you updates on storylines for your game, league news, and your farm system. Finally, new graphics have been added during games to discuss things like award races, standings, and more!
Commentary
Finally, we found out who will be doing commentary in MLB The Show 25. Jon Sciambi and Chris Singleton return on the commentary team this year. We also have two new PA announcers. Adrienne Roberson, who serves as the Baltimore Orioles PA announcer in real-life, and Renel Brooks-Moon, who served as the PA announcer for the San Francisco Giants for over 20 years, will both be featured in the game.
