A Look at Commentary In PGA Tour 2K21

Commentary is important for setting the tone of a sports game. For some games, like NBA Jam, commentary can help make a game an instant, memorable classic. For more humorous games like 100ft Robot Golf, you might want to bring in a group with a lighter tone. In sports games like HB Studios and 2K’s upcoming PGA Tour 2K21, it’s important to bring in voices who lend legitimacy to the experience.

Today, 2K released a trailer for their commentary duo of choice.

Luke Elvy and Rich Beem are lending their voices to PGA Tour 2k21’s play-by-play when it releases this August.

Luke Elvy is a familiar voice in golf. Elvy has over 20 years experience as a sports broadcaster, primarily covering golf for outlets like CBS and Fox Sports. The commentary veteran also serves as the vice president of media for aboutGOLF, the PGA Tour’s official golf simulator. PGA Tour 2K21 will be Elvy’s return to commentary in 2K golf games, following up his co-commentator role in 2018’s The Golf Club 2019 featuring PGA Tour.

Rich Beem will make his 2K commentary debut joining Elvy in the booth. Beem is a three-time PGA tour winner, including a 2002 PGA Tour Championship over greatest of all time Tiger Woods. In 2015, Beem joined SKY Sports as a golf analyst.

PGA Tour 2K21’s commentary trailer shows behind-the-scenes footage of Elvy and Beem talking about their experience recording their voices for the game. “You’ve got two PGA Tour broadcasters,” Elvy says, “it feels real, the moments are real.”

Beem also highlights that, while the duo will be taking their commentary seriously, there will be wiggle room for bits that wouldn’t make it on the air at the PGA Tour.

“Funny enough, we’re in there saying some of the things that we really want to say in live golf that you just go, ‘Yeah, no, that’ll never happen.’,” he said.

PGA Tour 2K21 will be available on August 21st on Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch. You can find more information on PGA Tour 2K21, including info on the game’s roster, and a breakdown of its career mode, right here on SGO.
