2K scored an ace with this one. On Tuesday, the company agreed to a long-term exclusivity deal with perhaps the most iconic figure in the history of professional golf. The partnership includes rights to Woods’ name and likeness and the golfing great will serve as both an executive producer and consultant for the PGA Tour 2K series.

“I am looking forward to making my return to the video game landscape, and with 2K and HB Studios, I’ve found the right partners to make it happen,” Woods said in a statement. “I’m honored to take part in this opportunity and look forward to sharing my expertise and insights as we build the future of golf video games together.”
Woods had a similar deal in place with EA from 1998 to 2013 with the successful Tiger Woods PGA Tour Series. This partnership, however, lands on what looks to be the very last hole on the back nine of Tiger’s career. The announcement comes on the heels of a very scary automobile accident involving Woods. While thankfully he was spared from tragedy, the “jaws of life” had to be used to remove the 11-time PGA Tour Player of the Year from his vehicle, and he sustained serious leg and ankle injuries.
That said, this is still a huge get for the 2K franchise. PGA Tour 2K21 landed in the fairway with a mostly warm critical reception. Of course NBA 2K is the basketball title of note, and an NFL 2K game is still coming down the pike in 2021.
