NHL 20 Gaming World Championship Returning for Third Straight Year

Today, EA Sports announced that the NHL Gaming World Championship will return for a third straight year. The tournament will be played exclusively in NHL 20’s Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT) mode. Prizes are expected to match or surpass last year’s pool of $100,000. Here’s everything we know so far about the NHL 2020 Gaming World Championship.

The NHL 19 GWC was marred with issues related to competitive balance and fairness. While the tournament’s qualifying stage is open to all who sign up, games are exclusively played through Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT) with unrestricted rosters, meaning those who pay for packs or coins will have the best teams. Players looking to compete with a squad of all gold players will likely be disappointed when matched up with squads loaded with 99-rated cards.
