MLB The Show 23 Official Rating in Brazil Confirms Return to Last-Gen Consoles

MLB The Show 22

Last week, MLB The Show 22 received its final Featured Program. This was the beginning of the end of live service updates to this year’s entry in the series. Now, with the new year around the corner, gamers have started to turn their eyes towards the anticipated MLB The Show 23. And even though the next game has not even been announced yet, thanks to the Brazilian ratings classification board, we just got our first bit of information about the game.

Console Ratings

According to a tweet from Gematsu on December 6th, a MLB The Show 23 has been officially rated in Brazil. The game received a livre or L rating, which is the equivalent of the E for everyone rating in the United States. The game was rated for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. This means that the game will again be released on last-generation consoles. This is disappointing to fans of the series who felt like the previous generation of hardware has been holding the series back from taking full advantage of what next-gen gaming has to offer.

This rating also seems to confirm that the game will still not be getting a PC release. While it was not expected to be released on PC anyways, it still would be cool to see what a dedicated modding community could do if it got its hands on this game. This will be the first iteration of the game since MLB The Show 20 where the game did not release on a brand-new console. MLB The Show 21 was the first game to expand outside the PlayStation ecosystem, brining the game to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, as well as being the first to release on the PS5. MLB The Show 22 also expanded the family of consoles for the series, as the game released on the Nintendo Switch for the first time.

Official Announcement?

So now that Brazil has let the cat out of the bag on what systems the game is coming to, when can we expect the game to be officially announced? To get our best guess for that, we can look at the schedule the team took last year. MLB The Show 22 was officially announced via the Cover Athlete Reveal live stream on January 31, 2022. This stream announced the cover athlete, release date, and available systems. If SDS decides to take the same schedule as the last two years, where the game was released in April, we can expect an official reveal near the end of January or the beginning of February.

However, it is possible that since the game is not expanding to new consoles for the first time in a few years, the release schedule for MLB The Show 23 could look more similar to games prior to MLB The Show 21. From MLB The Show 16 to MLB The Show 20, the game was released on PS3 (only MLB The Show 16) and PS4. All of those games were released in mid to late March. If this is the case, we may see an official announcement from SDS even sooner!

All we can do now is sit and wait for SDS to officially announce MLB The Show 23. What are you most excited for in next year’s game?
