MLB The Show 24 Updates Opening Day Roster, Locks Diamond Dynasty Content Behind Packs

It was a rough week for MLB The Show 24. On Thursday, many players awoke and had their entire Diamond Dynasty accounts reset. Thankfully, this issue seems to be resolved now. However, the new content released this week has also drawn some negative feedback from fans.

Season Awards

Season Awards is a new program that replaces the previously beloved Monthly Awards programs. This new program will span Season 1 of Diamond Dynasty, and celebrate players who perform the best around MLB.

On Tuesday, the first Season 1 Awards Program was added to the game. The program featured moments, as well as PXP and stats missions for players to complete. The player items in the program were:

At first, this seemed like a normal program. However, a new pack that was released in The Show Shop got some players upset. The new Season 1 Awards Drop 1 pack cost 30,000 stubs and included the following players:

Players were upset because most of the new Season Awards cards were locked behind the pack instead of the program. Also, none of the packs were included in the program like they usually have been before. Finally, the cards in the pack were clearly superior to the ones that could be earned for free by completing the program.

This format continued today with the release of the second Season 1 Awards Program. Today’s new program contains:

Meanwhile, the new Season 1 Awards Drop 2 pack, which also costs 30,000 stubs, includes:

So far the Season 1 Awards programs have included only two Season 1 Awards cards. Meanwhile, the packs have contained 6 Season 1 Awards cards, or 75% of the ones released so far. This is a concerning trend for Diamond Dynasty, which has previously held a positive reputation with gamers as the most consumer friendly card-collecting game mode. If this content structure remains, that title will quickly be taken away.

Roster Update

While the Diamond Dynasty content was quite disappointing, offline players have a lot to be excited about. Today’s roster update made tons of updates to prospects, as well as adding some previously missing players. International rookies Jung Hoo Lee and Shota Imanaga have been added to the official live roster.

There were also several MiLB Top 100 prospects added to the roster. On top of adding missing prospects, minor league player potentials were updated to reflect the current top ranked prospects in the sport.

New face appearances for big name players like Wyatt Langford and Dylan Crews have also been added into the game. Several players also had their equipment updated based on Opening Day. Bruce Bolt gear was also added to more than 200 players.

Storylines

Finally, three new chapters have been added into Storylines: The Negro Leagues Season 2. The new legends added to the mode are Larry Doby, Leon Day, and Jose Mendez. Again, Bob Kendrick, President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, will guide players through an interactive journey across the lives and careers of these baseball legends.
