MLB The Show news season is in full swing. Yesterday, we learned that three of the biggest young superstars in baseball are set to grace the cover of this year’s game. Today, SDS released the first set of official news, including platforms, release date, and much more.
Swinging For The Fences
In a blog post on the MLB The Show website, SDS finally revealed the cover for MLB The Show 25. The cover features Reds SS Elly De La Cruz, Orioles SS Gunnar Henderson, and Pirates SP Paul Skenes.
Along with the cover, SDS revealed the game is set to release on March 18th, with March 14th being the early access release date for those who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition. Pre-orders for the game will be available on February 4th.
The post also revealed the game would only be releasing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. This move to current gen only had been much requested by fans for years and is now finally happening.
The biggest news in this blog post was that MLB The Show 25 would not be on Xbox Game Pass. MLB The Show had been a Day 1 Game Pass release ever since the series went multi-platform in 2021. Now, Xbox players will have to pay full price to play the game.
PlayStation Description
Alongside this blog post, the PlayStation Store page for MLB The Show 25 also went live today. The description isn’t very long, but there are a few key bits of information about what could possibly be coming to the game.
In the description, it says, “Ignite your passion and build your very own path to greatness – from high school all the way to the Hall of Fame!” While this doesn’t confirm anything, this could possibly be alluding to the new RTTS pre-draft experience that had previously been teased. This could possibly be hinting at the inclusion of playing high school baseball in RTTS. Fans are also speculating that college baseball could be added to the mode as well, due to the LSU logo being included on the cover of the game.
Final Details
Finally, on the MLB The Show website, we got a few final small details about what to expect from the game. In the FAQ section, the website confirms there will be no physical collector’s edition this year. There also will be no pre-launch Tech Test this year. The website also confirmed that Year to Year saves would not be returning this year, however, custom stadiums and logos would transfer from MLB The Show 24 to MLB The Show 25.
