SDS has revealed more details on the new features coming to Franchise mode in MLB The Show 25. This includes the new free agency system and trade logic. We also heard about some new quality of life features coming to the mode.
Free Agency
During the live stream portion of the Feature Premiere on SDS’s Twitch and YouTube channels, we got to see the new free agency system in action. During this demonstration, we learned a few things about this new system that had not been revealed yet.
First, we learned that players will only be able to offer players contracts once per week. On Fridays, players will get a notification that it is the day of the week for offering contracts. This is similar to the notification for scouting during the season.
Second, we learned that free agents have a max motivation to sign value that you can reach each week. In the demonstration, we saw Zac Gallen reach a max motivation of 88%. The team saw this, and noted that if they offered more money than their current offer, they would be wasting money since it could not increase his interest any more.
Third, we learned that some options for contracts might no longer be available. On the free agent contract offer screen, there was no way shown to add a player or team option to the contract. There was also no option to front load or back load a contract shown. These options had been available in all contract offers previously, so it would be a huge disappointment to see them be removed from the game.
Quality of Life
Alongside these revealed parts of the new free agency system, we also heard about a few quality of life changes coming to franchise mode. First, a new section has been added to player cards during a season that will show a player’s performance over the last 10 games. The year and round a player was drafted has also been added to the player card. During the offseason, you will now be able to see if a player is eligible for the Rule 5 Draft in the View Roster screen.
There has also been a change to prospects and drafting. Previously, there were a lot of relievers and closers that would be ranked as top prospects going into the draft. Now, these players will be ranked according to how they are in real life.
