UPDATE: Saber Interactive has issued the following statement to SGO regarding the cancellation of NBA Playgrounds 2 preorders.
“Since the extent of NBA Playgrounds 2’s delay is unknown, we feel the right thing to do for our fans and players is refund pre-orders. We do have incredibly exciting news for the game, and we’ll have more details to share soon.”
What news that is remains to be seen, but the big takeaway from the statement is that the developers don’t know how long the delay will last. For a game that was announced seemingly out of nowhere, a lengthy delay can’t be viewed as a positive for fans.
ORIGINAL: NBA Playgrounds 2 was set to launch on Tuesday, May 22 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC. But just days before its release, Saber Interactive announced that the game was going to be delayed until further notice.
“Please be patient with us, we promise that NBA Playgrounds 2 will be better than ever,” the company said on the game’s official Facebook page. “We’ll have more details to share soon.”
Now, just four days after the announcement of the delay, the PlayStation store is starting to cancel preorders and issue refunds to players.

“Thank you for preorder NBA Playgrounds 2,” the message says. “Unfortunately, we are no longer able to offer this product.”
The message adds that the game will be removed from the store and all preorders will be canceled.
What does the cancellation of preorders mean for the future of the game? Is the delay going to be longer than originally anticipated? One can only wonder, but SGO has reached out to Saber Interactive for details on the cancellations.
As of this writing, the company has yet to respond.
