If you didn’t tune in to Xbox’s Developer_Direct, you missed the latest deep dive into Forza Motorsport. Turn 10’s newest racing game pushes the boundaries in detail on and off the racing track. During the showcase, we learned how Forza Motorsport aims to be the most authentic racing game to date.
Forza Motorsport: Cars, Cars, and More Cars
At launch, Forza Motorsport will feature five hundred cars with over eight hundred unique upgrades. Turn 10 is giving players more customization options than ever before. This amount of vehicles is the most to be featured in any Forza Motorsport game in recent years.
What’s new in Forza Motorsport?
Unlike the party street racing vibe of Forza Horizon, Forza Motorsport is more about professionalism and beautiful visuals. This time, Turn 10 has reworked the game’s physics model to make gameplay more fun and rewarding.
During Xbox and Bethesda’s showcase last year, the developers discussed the importance of their all-new Forza Tech engine. This technology powers the game’s physics behavior, creating the ultimate racing experience. The game will judge track temperatures, driving surfaces, and weather to ensure that no two laps will feel the same.
Graphical Fidelity
Forza Motorsport‘s assets, materials, and shadders have been built from the ground up. Motorsport will run at 4K, 60 frames per second, and will utilize ray-tracing capabilities to enhance paint and light behaviors.
In this year’s game, damage and dirt build-up will be unique to your racing experience. The developers explained this as your car’s condition tells the story. Dirt accumulation, chipping, and directionality will affect your car’s appearance after a race.
Sound
Similar to the graphics in Turn 10’s newest racer, the sound has been reworked from the ground up. This is the first game to be mixed natively for Windows Sonic and Dolby Atmos. The developers explained how changing or modifying your existing car parts affects how your vehicle sounds.
In addition, new features, such as a regional track announcer system and tire and suspension audio improvements, will bring a new level of immersion to Forza Motorsport.
Tracks
Turn 10 promises fan-favorite tracks will return to the game and include five all-new locations. The one mentioned in the showcase was Kyalami. This track is located in South Africa and will feature immense detail. Through the latest Xbox consoles, Turn 10 can produce up to ten times more detail than previous generations. This includes vegetation, trees, vibrant track life, and physically-based lighting.
So far, these are the tracks that have been confirmed:
- Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
- Hakone
- Kyalami
- Laguna Seca
- Maple Valley
- Silverstone Circuit
- Suzuka Circuit
Forza Motorsport is still slated to come out in 2023 for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
