Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Angelique Kerber to Compete in Tennis World Tour Virtual Tournament

With live sporting events currently on the sidelines, the tennis world is joining other sports and getting in on video game tournaments. The Mutua Madrid Open will hold its 2020 tournament virtually on Tennis World Tour, with some of the best in the world competing in an eSports competition.

Madrid Open on Tennis World Tour

NACON announced today that the Mutua Madrid Open will take place this week (April 27-30) in a virtual format, as 32 of the biggest stars will take place in the event. Tennis players such as Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray will play in the tournament, which will be played on Tennis World Tour.

The decision to play the event virtually came from the event organizers. The tourney will be a virtual replica of the Madrid Open, and will allow the event to still take place in a safe manner.

The event will see top tennis players take on one another, and will also feature an event where tennis players will play influencers. The events have a prize pool of €350,000, €150,000 for ATP and €150,000 for WTP from which the winners will donate to the tennis players suffering financially due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. The remaining €50,000 will go to help hospitals in the fight against the coronavirus.

New Tennis World Tour Content

In conjunction with the launch of the tournament, Tennis World Tour will offer three renowned players (Denis Shapovalov, Alex de Minaur and Caroline Garcia) to gamers for free. These players are available for the Xbox One and Playstation 4, and will be available shortly for the Nintendo Switch.
