EA Could Add a Second Ultimate Team Mode to EA Sports FC

Rumors continue to swirl about EA Sports FC.

Last week, Electronic Arts announced that the National Womens Soccer League was making its way to FIFA 23. Now that more women’s football clubs have been added to the series, we can begin to speculate what EA plans to do with so many licenses. According to one FIFA news page, the FIFA publisher could introduce a women’s ultimate team mode [WUT] to its upcoming EA Sports FC title.

WUT is this?

As the FIFA series ends, EA Sports FC opens its doors to the football gaming world. We still don’t know much about the game, but rumors continue to swirl around about what’s to come.

The latest rumor comes from a FIFA news page, DekuGFX, suggesting that a women’s ultimate team is coming to EA’s newest football series. When EA Added another twelve clubs from the women’s US football division, it also brought more female footballers to FIFA 23, so another ultimate team could be likely. But, this is only a rumor and should be treated as such.

Fan reception

FIFA Ultimate Team already has a bad reputation amongst fans due to the egregious nature of the mode. When the rumor about WUT began to swirl, it was met with disinterest from fans. While EA has in no way confirmed this news, the idea of another Ultimate Team coming to this new series that the publisher is deeming a ‘fresh start’ comes across as distasteful.

Writer opinion

As some people know, I am against FIFA Ultimate Team as a mode in general. While the mode might be fun to some, the pay-to-win nature of FUT is a design flaw that should be re-evaluated. When EA announced EA Sports FC, we knew that FUT would be making a comeback but pouring resources into a second Ultimate Team mode is the same level of greed that has harmed the FIFA series today.

While this news is only a rumor, we will know more about Electronic Arts’ upcoming football title later this year.
