Today, Electronic Arts (EA) told Eurogamer that it will include pack odds in FIFA 19 Ultimate Team.
EA Sports vice president Daryl Holt told Eurogamer, “For Ultimate Team, when you buy a pack you know what you are getting. You are getting a certain number of assets that are guaranteed – and we’re going to start to do pack odds disclosures that’ll show you the odds of what you might get.”
Currently, EA games tell Ultimate Team players what cards are guaranteed to be in a pack, rather than the odds of pulling a certain card or type of card. The descriptions are often vague, and may look like this:
Holt also said, “That’ll be in our product year 19 titles. So, at least that aspect of understanding what the chances are of getting X, Y and Z card.”
This could mean all games, including Madden NFL 19, NHL 19 and NBA Live 19 will include pack odds as well.
It is still unclear exactly how specific EA will be when displaying pack odds. While this is a great step forward for FUT players, pack odds still may not be as black and white as everyone would like.
EA has recently come under fire for microtransactions, specifically in Star Wars Battlefront II. Madden and FIFA players have been clamoring for pack odds or at least more information on packs before spending their (or their parents’) hard earned money.
Regardless of the semantics, this is a groundbreaking development for FIFA, and hopefully all EA games moving forward.
