Electronic Arts’ approach to promote FIFA 22 have been all about its Hypermotion Technology. Last weeks reveal trailer was the first time fans heard about this new technology coming to next-gen consoles. During Electronic Arts’ EA Spotlight event, fans got an in-depth look into what Hypermotion brings to FIFA and how it changes gameplay. Unfortunately, that was the end of the major news we got about FIFA 22. EA announced that its coverage of FIFA 22 was coming to an end at its EA Play event, well, for now at least. So, where does that leave FIFA 22 now? With the release of the game not to far, here is everything we know about FIFA 22 so far.
Cover Athlete
Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe graces the cover of FIFA again, EA tends to use the same cover athletes for multiple titles. Wayne Rooney and Leo Messi are two athletes that were FIFA’s cover mainstays for multiple years until 2017.
Hypermotion Technology
One of the ways EA wants to change FIFA on next-gen consoles is to use Hypermotion Technology as its base. EA used data from real footballers to influence its Hypermotion technology. The results were more emotions, animations, and fluid gameplay.
Hypermotion adds over 4000 new animations to the game. It also improves teams’ authentic motion, tactical AI, in-air battles, composed ball control, and player humanization. While these additions are not new to the FIFA series, hopefully it makes FIFA a more realistic experience on next-gen consoles.
Game Modes
Not much has been announced about FIFA 22’s game modes, but we expect to hear more about them individually soon. The information below can be found on EA’s website.
Career Mode – “Live out your football dreams in FIFA 22 Career Mode as you create a club and lead them from relegation candidates to global giants, and enjoy an overhauled Player Career experience that gives you more ways to progress, achieve, and immerse yourself in your Pro’s journey through the game”.
This is very exciting news given that fans have always wanted to create their own club in career mode. This will give career mode more customization options and feel more personal to the player.
Player Career is getting an overhaul that is long overdue. Fans have asked for this mode to get revamped for years, but player career has yet to see a significate improvement since 2013. Hopefully, we get an in-depth player career mode like FIFA 2017’s The Journey mode did.
Volta Football – “VOLTA FOOTBALL returns with more flair all over the pitch and new ways to express your style and connect with your squad in street football playgrounds all over the world”.
Volta is making a return and promises more customization and more ways to connect with your squad.
Ultimate Team – “FUT 22 redesigns Division Rivals and FUT Champions to create a more accessible way to test your skills and progress against other players, gives you even more ways to make your club your own with new depths of customization both on and off the pitch, and introduces FUT Heroes – the return of some of football’s most memorable players”.
Expect for ultimate team to have significant updates like new customization options and packs. EA have already announced some of their new FUT heroes player which features Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Pro Clubs – “With new customization options to make your club stand out in the stands and on the pitch, a new player growth system that puts you in control of your Virtual Pro’s development, and streamlined social play that makes it easier than ever to find your next game, it’s time to get the squad together for a new season of Pro Clubs”.
I’ve always said pro clubs is the mode with the most potential. Last year, pro clubs got more customization options, and that needs to continue for this years FIFA. We are also curious about the new player development system too.
Pro clubs could benefit from a in-game tournament such as a weekend league. Maybe something that teams can qualify for depending on their rank in divisions.
New Commentator
I left this out of the video, but Alex Scott is officially the first female commentator in the FIFA series. EA has changed the commentary quite a bit since Martin Tyler and Alan Smith. Nevertheless, a female commentator is long overdue, and Alex Scott is a great addition to FIFA’s commentary.
Release Date
Last week, EA revealed that FIFA 22 will be released on October 1 2021. For the players that pre-order the FIFA 22’s Ultimate Edition, the game will be playable September 27.
