Being a long-time FIFA fan, it’s weird seeing the number of updates Player Career has received over the last two games in the FIFA series. Since 2012 Electronic Arts’ lackluster approach to career mode has upset many fans over the last decade; however, with the updates to FIFA 22 and now FIFA 23, player career is receiving more shine than ever. FIFA 23 Career Mode Deep Dive highlights personalities and dynamic moments in player career mode.

FIFA 23 Player Deep Dive

Career Personalities

FIFA 23′s player career personality system ensures that your virtual footballer isn’t a lifeless capsule smashing in top bins game in, game out. EA’s new personality system lets your decisions affect what type of player you are.

There are three types of personalities in FIFA 23: Maverick, Virtuoso, and Heartbeat. How you play and make decisions will sway you into one of these three categories. For example, if you visit a teammate in the hospital, focus on teamwork, and are unselfish, you will gain points in the Heartbeat category. These points will also boost your player’s rating and stats, so this system is fundamental to your player’s development.

Dynamic Moments

This new feature will be in the Manager Career, but it’s unique to the Player Career mode. Dynamic Moments highlight moments in your career and play them out as a cinematic scene. If you are transferred to another club, it will show your player meeting the manager and being introduced to new teammates.

There are many scenarios where you will experience dynamic moments in FIFA 23. I hope these new cut scenes don’t get overused and immerse you in Career Mode.

Manager Mode

While Player Career got the most attention during the showcase, the new manager mode features are a bit of a letdown. Last year, FIFA 22 introduced customizable stadiums and clubs; however, Electronic Arts didn’t expand on that this year. Here is a rundown of everything that’s coming to FIFA 23 Manager Mode:

Transfer Analysis

The summer transfer window is one of the most exciting times in a football season. However, transfers on FIFA have always been pretty bland and lacked unique negotiation options. In FIFA 23, the new transfer analysis system will give you feedback on recent transfer negotiations and suggest alternative options. This is similar to what football simulation games do, like Football Manager.

New AI Tactics

Every year Electronic Arts loves the smarter AI line regarding FIFA‘s computer AI improvements. FIFA’s AI has been criticized for being too easy to beat or too dumb to enjoy. But, with FIFA 23‘s new AI tactics, the game will read how matches are going and adjust accordingly. I feel like we’ve heard of this method in recent years, but we need to see it in action.

Authentic Managers

Authentic Managers appear in the PES series but now have a home in FIFA 23. Instead of creating a manager to lead your club to glory, you can use real managers in the game like Jürgen Klopp or Thomas Tuchel.

Playable Highlights

Playable Highlights will be in Player Career also, but this feature is new to Manager Mode. If you are not like me and don’t have the time to play every game in the season, you’re in luck; playable highlights will let players play big moments in games to help them progress quickly through a season.

FIFA 22 introduced a drop-in match feature that lets you jump right into the action when simulating a match. Playable highlights will be the same but only during notable moments. MLB The Show has a similar feature in its Road to The Show mode.

What new features are you excited about in FIFA 23‘s Career Mode? Let us know in the comments.
