Over the next few weeks, Electronic Arts will showcase all the newest features coming to FIFA 23. Last week we finally got the official reveal trailer for EA’s upcoming football game featuring Sam Kerr and returning cover star Kylian Mbappé. However, kicking off its series of deep dives, Electronic Arts has showcased FIFA 23 Hypermotion 2 and gameplay features in a new breakdown video.

FIFA 23 Hypermotion 2

Like last year, Hypermotion 2 will serve as the basis for FIFA 23’s overall gameplay. Electronic Arts used two full-length matches and training drills to capture data for this year’s game. In return, the game received twice the number of animations than last year’s FIFA 22. One EA dev explained the importance of not only capturing matches but also training drills.

“So, the beauty of training drills is that we can get a high volume of data that you would maybe see once or twice in a full 90-minute match,” he said. But, in the training drills, we got it over and over again in a short period of time”.

This method will enhance FIFA 23′s gameplay across every area on the virtual pitch. Hypermotion 2 brings over 6000 new true-to-football animations to EA’s popular football title.

Women’s Football

In FIFA 23, women’s leagues will feature for the first time in history. EA has added specific animations and gameplay for women’s matches; to make these particular match fixtures unique to the women’s game.

“We completely changed the whole locomotion of set for the female players. Which means every running style will feel unique and more realistic”, Said the EA dev.

Different Ways to Score

Power Shot

EA has implemented different ways to score incredible goals in recent FIFA titles. In FIFA 19, timed shooting was introduced to add a new high-risk, high-reward mechanic to the game. However, the power shot will operate similarly. While Pressing L1+R1+O on PlayStation controllers and LB+RB+B on Xbox controllers, you will perform a power shot.

For a successful power shot, you must create space for a good wind-up. However, the success of these strikes will depend on the player’s aim.

Free-Kicks

FIFA’s free-kick feature usually changes every other year. This year the free-kick system focuses on not just the placement of the shot but where the player wants to strike the ball. This is a great mechanic because you need to know where to hit the ball in multiple free-kick scenarios. It’s like the game is testing your football knowledge.

In recent years, PSG player Leo Messi has frightened defenders with his ability to shoot the ball underneath a jumping four-man wall. In return, players have been laying down behind the wall to avoid a low free-kick. Electronic Arts have now put this tactic in FIFA 23 to help players avoid the same fate.
