FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition features Kylian Mbappé and Sam Kerr

Here comes a big week for FIFA 23 news! As we have known for a while, Electronic Arts planned to show off some of its upcoming titles in July. So far, the American publisher has showcased Skate, the newest free-to-play entry to the skateboarding series. However, this week has kicked off with FIFA 23 news leading up to the game’s reveal on Wednesday. Electronic Arts have announced that Kylian Mbappé and Sam Kerr are the cover stars for the FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition.

FIFA 23: Sam Kerr

French forward Kylian Mbappé is no stranger to the FIFA cover. This is his third consecutive appearance as cover athlete. Australian footballer Sam Kerr, however, is the first woman to grace a global FIFA cover in the history of the series. Though Kerr isn’t the first woman to be featured on a FIFA cover; USA striker Alex Morgan was the first woman to do it in 2016 for the United States version of FIFA 16.

Nevertheless, it’s great to see EA feature one of the most prolific strikers in the Women’s Super League. Last season, Kerr scored 20 goals in 20 matches and won the Golden Boot award.

Sam Kerr’s involvement in the FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition might confirm that women will have a more significant role in this year’s game. Over the last month, we heard rumors of FIFA 23 featuring women’s leagues and the world cup for the first time in history.

While Sam Kerr is a surprise, It’s looking like Kylian Mbappe will be the leading cover athlete for this year’s game again. For the last two years, the French striker has been the face of FIFA, and it’s looking like this will continue this year. I would like to see Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema get a shout, but we will know more about the official cover soon.
