Sloclap has announced the release date of their much-anticipated new game, REMATCH, set to be released in June 2025. This soccer game has got fans of the genre talking, as it takes a different approach to many of the popular soccer games currently on the market.

REMATCH Set To Drop In June: Could It Rival FIFA’s Legacy?

This five-a-side game provides a real multiplayer experience, just like on the soccer field, where players must prioritize teamwork to win. But, will it be able to rival FIFA (now renamed EA Sports FC) in the competitive sporting game market?

What Is REMATCH?

REMATCH allows players to control only one player on the soccer team in a fast-paced 3v3, 4v4, or 5v5 match. The game makes use of a third-person perspective with highly stylized graphics that sometimes touch on the anime genre.

The other soccer players on your team are controlled by other human gamers, making it a truly interactive multiplayer game similar to Rocket League.

REMATCH has some unique gameplay elements not found in most other soccer games:

  • Manually shoot or pass the ball, refining your precision, timing, and creative skills.
  • Select between 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5 modes where you control only a single player on the field.
  • The ball has dynamic movements, spinning to allow curved shots, being lobbed over other players, or rapidly skidding across the grass for a ground pass.
  • Unlike traditional soccer, there is no out-of-bounds. The ball will simply bounce off the walls to ensure interruption-free gameplay.
  • Players can customize their character, including adding prosthetics, which will appeal to a wider audience.

The game has real esports potential as it is looking to be a very competitive game with a strong streaming element. Other soccer games like EA Sports FC, eFootball, and Football Manager are popular contenders in the eSports arena, where punters live-stream and bet on the outcome of the games. REMATCH is set to follow suit, and knowing how to select offshore sportsbooks that offer the best eSports odds will help bettors to make successful wagers once the game is available for tournaments.

Will REMATCH Rival EA Sports FC?

EA Sports FC (previously FIFA) has been the king of soccer games since its release in December 1993. The game has a strong player base that purchases new editions each year, competes in international tournaments, and waits weeks for seasonal in-game events. Second in line for the crown is eFootball, previously PES, along with Ronaldo-backed UFL.

So, will REMATCH knock these established games from their thrones?

It seems unlikely, mainly because of the unique approach REMATCH takes to soccer. EA Sports FC 25 offers realistic graphics and conventional soccer rules, and an entire team is controlled by a single gamer. REMATCH throws those rules out the window, with a five-a-side team controlled by five different players, no out-of-bounds, no fouls, and no off-sides. The game steps away from real-world players and graphics, using a stylized approach and customizable players.

REMATCH is closer to FIFA Street, with a more arcade-like experience where the focus is on fun ball handling skills and teamwork. Unlike EA Sports FC which is mainly a profit-driven game, REMATCH is all about fun competition, teamplay, and fantastical graphics.

Will REMATCH make its mark on the soccer genre?

Based on the trailer and early previews, it appears that REMATCH may convert even the most loyal EA Sports FC player. Working as a team, players will have to chase down the ball and take on the opponents to score a goal.

Gamers are looking for something different in the soccer genre. Hyper-realistic games have run their course. And, although REMATCH is not going to disrupt EA Sports FC’s legacy, it is a new contender that will bring a new fanbase to the genre.
