I’m not sure if it will come as a surprise, but in the early hours of Friday morning, Sports Interactive released a statement revealing that Football Manager 25 has been canceled.
Football Manager 25 is canceled
Sports Interactive tweeted a lengthy post on X stating that FM25 is now canceled and the team will shift focus to the next installment in the series.
“Sports Interactive regret to inform that, following extensive internal discussion and careful consideration with SEGA, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Football Manager 25 and shift our focus to the next release.”
The developers informed fans that continuous development issues and “unforeseen” complications caused the cancellation. The post continues by stating that the team is now focused on the next game in the series and that more updates are coming soon.

The troubled development
FM25 was set to be a technical and visual leap for the series and usher in a new era. Sports Interactive was moving the series to the Unity Engine, which would improve the game drastically. However, issues arose during development which provoked developers to cut some content from this year’s game like international management. In addition, the game was set to introduce women’s football leagues which add more fuel to the already blazing fire.
Football Manager 25 was delayed twice with the latest release date set for March of this year. However, since December the team has been radio silent about the development of the game which raised some concern, including us at Sports Gamers Online.
Sports Interactive has been very transparent with the setbacks of FM25 and skipping a year might be the best decision for the series. When eFootball transitioned to the Unreal Engine, it released a plethora of issues that took Konami years to address.
Hopefully, we get our first peek at the new look of Football Manager soon.
