Understanding power shots
FIFA 23 includes a new feature: power shots. Power shots allow players to take a big wind-up and unleash a bullet-like shot. These shots have the chance to fly past the keeper even from well outside the box. To perform a power shot, hold both bumpers and slam the shoot button. When performing a power shot, the camera focuses on the player and creates a glorious moment. The downside to this new feature is that it can become a bit distracting as players constantly attempt them. Also, as you need to take a big wind-up, it is easy for the opposing team to dispossess you.
Improved dribbling
EA has worked a lot on improving the dribbling from last year’s game. In FIFA 23, players will see less bugs when running near players, and dribbling past defenders actually feels authentic. FIFA 23 deployed new technology which prevents players from standing too close to each other and creates a much more life-like football simulator.
Of course, it is not perfect, as players do occasionally stand on each other, but it is a big improvement from FIFA 22. If you love playing as an attacking midfielder or winger and making defenders look silly out there with your fancy dribbling skills, then you will appreciate the new enhancements.
Cross gameplay comes to FIFA 23
This year FIFA 23 introduces cross-play, largely removing the hardware barrier for friends to play together. Thanks to cross-play, the FIFA online player pool has greatly increased, which should lead to exciting matches. Cross-play is also great for further developing FIFA as an esport and should result in tournaments having more entrants and bigger prize pools. This new feature has been a long time coming, and it is great that the franchise has finally introduced it.
Women’s club football
FIFA 23 has broken social boundaries by featuring the first female player on the cover. The game’s cover featurea Sam Kerr, who plays for Chelsea’s women’s team and is considered the best female player in the world. She will be featured alongside PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.
Apart from featuring a woman on the cover for the first time, FIFA 23 includes women’s club football. Players will be able to play the women’s Super League which is the female version of the EPL and include teams like Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham. In addition, players also get the chance to play the Division 1 Féminine, the top division of French women’s football.
Final Thoughts
FIFA 23 is a solid improvement over FIFA 22. Nothing revolutionary has changed, but EA has made a number of incremental enhancements, leading to a much more realistic and exciting game.
