Sony PS VR2 Set to Release in February, Will Cost More Than PS5 at Launch

PS VR2

Today, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the release date and price of their next VR headset. The PlayStation VR2 will release February 22, 2023 for $549.99 (€599.99/£529.99). Pre-orders for the headset will go live November 15.

The PS VR2 headset will come with the headset itself, a pair of the new PS VR2 Sense controllers, and a pair of headphones. Sony also announced a bundle that includes Horizon Call of the Mountains, the new VR game based off the popular Sony games. This bundle will sell for $599.99 (€649.99/£569.99). A charging station for the Sense controllers will be sold for $49.99 (€49.99/£39.99).

The PlayStation VR2 will be much easier to connect to your console than the previous generation. The new headset will no longer require a PlayStation Camera and will only use one cord to connect to the PS5. PS VR2 will also feature eye-tracking, tactile feedback from the headset itself, and a 4K HDR display with 2000×2040 resolution per eye.

Is It Too Expensive?

This price is quite high for a new headset that players will not be able to play of their existing games on. The PS VR2 will not be compatible with any of the games for the original PlayStation VR headset. The new PS VR2 will also be only compatible with the PlayStation 5, a console that even after price increases still costs less than the new headset.

However, the price point for the new headset compares to that of the PS5 similarly to how the first PlayStation VR headset did to the PS4 when it released. When the first PS VR headset released in late 2016, it cost $50 more than a PS4 did at the time. This is the same price difference that the new headset will have compared to the PS5 when it releases early next year.

New Launch Titles

Sony also announced 11 new games that will be available when PS VR2 releases. New trailers are available for each of these games in the announcement. The 11 new launch titles for the new headset are:
