Summer Game Fest 2022: An Opportunity of a Lifetime

As news of E3 2022’s cancellation spread, Summer Game Fest 2022 stands out as an unlikely hero of sorts. The showcase is relatively young but bolsters itself as an opportunity for developers to show the games they have been working on.

Summer Game Fest 2022

The showcase will be hosted by Game Awards host Geoff Keighley, who has hosted it since its conception in 2020. Amid the start of a global pandemic, Keighley worked in tandem with studios to allow them to show their work. Since then, it has become a regular occurrence for developers to have their showcase.

The Summer Game Fest kicks off with a live showcase on Thursday, June 9 at 2 p.m. EST before continuing into the weekend of June 12. Other dates could be involved, though organizers have not confirmed any. At the very least, the bulk of it will take place between June 9 and 12. Summer Game Fest 2022 will also be available to watch in select IMAX theaters. Tickets go on sale starting May 12.

The Summer Game Fest has yet to release its entire schedule, but here’s what we have so far. After the kickoff, the Tribeca Games Spotlight will follow on Friday, June 10 at 3 p.m. est. The Xbox + Bethesda Games Showcase is set for Sunday, June 12 at 1 p.m. est.

Sports Titles at SGF 2022?

Last year’s Summer Game Fest included several partners including Epic Games, Riot Games, Bandai Namco, and other big-name publishers. This year’s partners haven’t been named yet.

There is no indication of whether sports titles will be shown at Summer Game Fest 2022. As it stands, the likelihood is low. However, there is a multitude of games that could be shown. Skate 4, eSports Boxing Club or Madden 23 could all make appearances. Needless to say, we are excited to see what could happen in June.
