Tony Hawk Reveals Tony Hawk Pro Skater Remake Series is Canceled

In April, Tony Hawk Pro Skater remake developer, Vicarious Visions merged with Blizzard Entertainment. In our coverage of this story on Sports Gamers Online, we ask some questions without answers. Many fans voiced their opinions on the merger and questioned the series’ future via Twitter, knowing the background of Blizzard Entertainment. Unfortunately, nightmares have come to reality, as Tony Hawk revealed that the absorption of Vicarious Visions has led to the cancellation of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater remake series.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 + 4 Canceled

On Monday, legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk was featured on Andy Gentile’s Twitch stream. Gentile was the senior designer for THPS 1 + 2. Hawk revealed that the THPS remake developer planned to continue the series before Activision absorbed it.

Gentile: Yeah, dude, if there is a 3 + 4, or whatever, you know how to reach me.

Hawk: I mean, that was the plan. Even up unti; the release date of [Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2], we were going 3 and 4. And then Vicarious got kind of absorbed, and then they were looking for other developers, and then it was over.

Tony Hawk claims that Activision took pitches from other developers but ultimately, the publisher didn’t trust anyone with the license.

“They took other pitches from other studios,” Hawk said, “like, what would you do with the THPS title? And [Activision] didn’t like anything they heard.”

Sports Gamers Online has reached out to Activision-Blizzard. We will edit this article when we receive a response.

Activision’s history with remakes hasn’t been the best in recent years. In 2018, its remake of the first three Spyro games caught heavy criticism because players had to download 75% of the game’s content, which required players to have internet access to play the entire game.

How do you feel about the Tony Hawk Pro Skater remake cancellation? Did you see this coming? Let us know in the comments.
