For those that have enjoyed the Trios matches on AEW television lately, you’re going to be disappointed to hear that AEW: Fight Forever won’t have Trios matches as one of the match types when the game launches.
Multiple sources told SGO that six-man tag team matches won’t be a part of the game. When reached out to THQ Nordic for confirmation on it, it was simply reiterated that the match types in the game were what had been previously announced: Single, Tag-Team, 3-way, 4-way, Ladder, Casino Battle Royale, Falls Count Anywhere, Unsanctioned Lights-Out and Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatches.
Based on THQ Nordic’s response, that would mean the tag-team matches would only be traditional two-vs-two contests.
It’s not all bad news, though. The same sources that informed of the lack of Trios matches in the game at launch have said that adding match types is part of the AEW: Fight Forever DLC plans as of now. The added match types, one said, would be added to the game as free updates. And while match type confirmations couldn’t be given, it was said that Trios matches were “high on the list” for future inclusion in the game.
Other plans for post-launch updates include roster additions and “gimmick” updates such as attires and entrance music should it be needed. With AEW: Fight Forever not planned to be a yearly game, keeping the game fresh for players long after release is a priority for AEW EVP Kenny Omega, publisher THQ Nordic, and developer Yuke’s.
AEW: Fight Forever is slated to launch later this year for all major platforms, including PC and Nintendo Switch.
