The price of games has been widely talked about recently. Many developers and publishers have announced price increases over the last few weeks. Luckily for sports gamers, one developer has announced that they do not plan to increase their prices anytime soon.

EA Does Not Plan to Raise Prices

This week, in an earnings call with investors, EA confirmed that they do not plan to increase the price of their games in the near future. When asked about if the price of their games could go up, CEO Andrew Wilson said, “In terms of pricing power, again, our business is very different today than it was even just 10 years ago. In a world where everything we did 10 years ago was about selling shiny discs in plastic boxes in retail shelves, well, that’s still a part of our business. It’s a significantly smaller part of our business. And we now have pricing represented everything from free-to-play all the way to deluxe editions and beyond. At the end of the day, whether we’re doing something that costs a dollar or we’re doing something that costs $10 or we’re doing something that costs $100.”

EA CFO Stuart Canfield then added the company has “reflected no changes in the current [pricing] strategy at this point.”

Previous Price Increases

The price of gaming as a hobby has been a hot button topic over the last few weeks. It started when Sony announced the increase of prices for consoles in certain regions. This was followed by the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, where we learned that Mario Kart World will have a retail price of $80 in the US. Finally, this past week, Microsoft announced price increases to all of their Xbox Series consoles, as well as their intentions to price some of their first-party titles at $80 beginning this holiday season.

This revelation that EA games will remain $70 is a big relief for games, considering many of EA’s games are set to release in the coming weeks. F1 25 is set to release on May 30th. Meanwhile, College Football 26 will release just a few weeks later on July 10th, with Madden NFL 26 releasing just over a month later on August 14th. Add to this the new Battlefield game that is in development and this year’s EA FC game, and EA has several releases lined up that gamers are incredibly excited for. These games can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that at least for now, the prices of these games will be staying the same.
