Amid the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Nintendo has announced they are suspending all exports to Russia for the foreseeable future. The Kyoto-based company officially joins the litany of video game companies placing a sort of sanction against Russia’s role in the conflict with Ukraine.
Nintendo Releases Official Statement
Nintendo said it is suspending all exports to Russia “for the foreseeable future,” citing “volatility surrounding the logistics of shipping and distributing physical goods”. This move comes after the suspension of eShop payments in Russia and the decision to delay Advanced Wars 1+2: Reboot Camp.
At the time, it was unclear if the Kyoto-based company instituted these decisions themselves. However, it seems clear the decision was made by them.
What Other Companies are Doing
As stated before, Nintendo joins a litany of companies suspending their services and products in Russia. Microsoft’s President and Vice-Chair, Brad Smith announced Microsoft has suspended its sales of products and services to Russia. They have also pledged to help Ukraine’s cyber security defense against Russia, donate to disaster funds, and work closely with the EU, UK, and United Nations.
Sony has suspended all software and hardware shipments, the launch of Gran Turismo 7, and operations of the Playstation Store in Russia. It has also donated $2 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Save the Children “to support the victims of this tragedy”.
Epic Games and Activision-Blizzard have also shut down its accessibility in Russian markets. Both companies have provided statements. Electronic Arts have pulled the Russian National Team from FIFA 22 and NHL 22.
