In a new PlayStation Blog post, the MLB The Show publisher introduced a new way for players to invite friends into multiplayer sessions.
A new way to party up
Companies have slowly integrated mobile devices into the gaming experience. The first company to use this method was Nintendo. The Nintendo Switch requires players to use their phones via the Nintendo Switch Online app to communicate in a party.
Nowadays, players can use Discord on their phones to create PS5 and Xbox Series X|S parties when using crossplay capabilities. However, PlayStation’s latest idea will further integrate phones into your gaming online gaming experience.
How will it work
Players can scan a QR code, create a shareable link, and invite players to their online session. This method makes it easier for players not on your friends list to play games with you instantly.
As detailed in the PlayStation Blog post, shareable links will be a valuable addition to the PS5’s existing party features. However, some games may require an update before this method can be used.
This feature is designed to complement existing methods of joining a session from within a PS5 game and is consistent for any supported PS5 game. As this is a new technology, a small percentage of PS5 games may require an update to ensure the session joins will work seamlessly. We’ll collaborate with our development partners to explore the best solutions for those games.
In addition, PlayStation mentioned it will integrate the new feature onto the PS5 in the coming months, so players won’t have to wait long.
