The arcade sports gaming market is full of options. From those that feature pros like NBA Street and NFL Blitz to ones more focused on unique characters like the first three Super Mega Baseball games, the market is ever expanding. Today, another competitor has walked onto the court, hoping to bring their unique style of gameplay and visuals to the blacktop.
The Run: Got Next
The Run: Got Next is a new 3v3 streetball game focused on celebrating the culture of street basketball all around the world. The game features fast gameplay featuring huge dunks, deep threes, signature dribble moves, and much more.
Instead of featuring real life players, The Run: Got Next lets you build your team from a set of “diverse, larger-than-life, legendary street ballers.” Each player will have their own unique strengths and playstyle that will help them contribute to your team. This will cause you to really think about how you want to build your team.
Players can compete against others online across some of the most iconic streetball locations in the world. Each game in a run will have strategic modifiers affecting your play, making each game different from the last.
The Run: Got Next is the first title from Play by Play Studios. The studio is comprised of several industry veterans. Scott Probst is a former GM of Visceral Games, which worked on series like Dead Space, Battlefield, and Star Wars: Battlefront. Meanwhile Mike Young worked on both Madden NFL and the NBA Street series. Play by Play’s Art Director Terry Smith also worked on the God of War and The Sims franchises.
The goal of Play by Play Studios is to create a type of sports game they don’t see anywhere in the genre. They want to make games that “bring people together, are instantly fun, with hand-crafted characters and worlds.”
The Run: Got Next is scheduled to launch in 2025 on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game is currently available to wishlist on Steam.
