Over the last few days, multiple emails and documents about Xbox’s future plans have leaked onto the internet. These documents were meant to be shared with the FTC and used in the company’s ongoing lawsuit with the FTC. Today, Xbox Head Phil Spencer voiced his disappointment over the recent leaks and voes to share projects when they are officially ready.
Microsoft vs. The FTC
Because we are a sports gaming website, we haven’t talked much about the ongoing legal battle Microsoft is in with the FTC. Microsoft is trying to secure its acquisition of Blizzard, which has been reported to be 68.7 billion dollars. If this deal goes through, it will be considered the biggest deal the video game industry has ever seen.
However, the Federal Trade Commission, or FTC, has stepped in to investigate this historic deal due to possible monopolization. In 2021, Microsoft acquired Bethesda for around 7.5 billion USD, so you can understand why the FTC is getting involved now.
Phil Spencer is disappointed by leaks.
Microsoft mistakenly provided confidential information to the federal court website. This has led to a series of leaks about Xbox’s upcoming plans and video game releases. I won’t list off all of them here, but I’ll provide a list I compiled on Twitter below:
