FIFA 23 is coming and while it marks the end of an era for the long-running series, it’s also bringing some exciting changes. The football gaming franchise has been a huge success for decades, but after EA Sports confirmed it’s ending its thirty-year relationship with FIFA, we know FIFA 23 is to be the last game in the series bearing the FIFA name.
FIFA 23, the end of an era in gaming
Despite being the last game in a series, it does not mean EA is not going to put its all into making FIFA 23. The game’s cover stars are Chelsea forward, Sam Kerr, and Paris Saint-Germain forward, Kylian Mbappé. Kerr’s appearance is significant, as it is the first time a woman has been featured on the cover of a FIFA game—and it’s appropriate, too, given FIFA 23 includes club sides from women’s football for the first time. We can also look forward to cross-play, the World Cup, and the Women’s World Cup. As the game’s September 30 release date nears, here is everything you need to know about the much-anticipated FIFA 23.
If Fifa fans can’t get enough football on their consoles, there will always be betting offers available so they can always be “in the game”. First things first, cross-play finally arrives. EA confirmed FIFA 23 will be cross-platform on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, as well as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The cross-play compatibility may not have been a surprise. The FIFA 22 cross-play test had people thinking EA was trialing cross-play ahead of FIFA 23’s launch. Only certain game modes were included in the FIFA 22 test. This may be the same for FIFA 23.
Players will now be able to connect with friends and play in 1v1 modes, including Online Friendlies, and in FIFA Ultimate Team in FUT Play A Friend. Plus, compete against players on different platforms in Online Seasons, FUT Online Friendlies, FUT Rivals, FUT Champions, and FUT Online Draft to help you to get into your next online match more easily than ever before. Cross-platform play will be a brilliant addition to the game and has been long-awaited by the FIFA community.
This year, FIFA 23 gives players the long-awaited chance to play as Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, and over 350 other authentic managers. Players can choose to continue their legacy at their current club or take them to pastures new. Playable Highlights allow players to enter into simulated games at select times to play out key stages and ensure victory. The new Transfer Analyst gives ratings for how much financial sense a deal makes as well as how the player will fit into a squad. An expansion of the between-game animations at the club has also been added. Alongside the usual press conferences and trophy presentations, moments such as new signees being shown around the training ground and players receiving Man of the Match awards have also been added. There are also changes in Player Career, as your actions and attitude will now shape how you are treated and perceived. Categories like Maverick, Virtuoso, and Heartbeat determine what sort of player you are. All things considered, there’s plenty to whet your appetite for another year managing your career.
FUT
When FUT first released in FIFA 09, few anticipated the impact it would have on the franchise. It has now developed into the focal point of each new release. This edition is no different. EA has released a detailed deep dive into some of the brand new features coming to the most popular game mode of the franchise. FIFA fans will be happy to hear as they are positive additions. The chemistry system has been overhauled. Players will see a new way to measure chemistry that allows more creativity in squads. EA has also made a new game mode for FUT 23, called FUT Moments. For players who may not have the time to play full games or for players who just want to play a shorter game mode, FUT Moments allows you to play shortened gameplay moments, featuring flexible game lengths and squad requirements. FUT is shaping up to be one of the best features of this massive game.
There has also been plenty of speculation regarding changes to Pro Clubs. Obviously, the most significant change is EA’s commitment to cross-play functionality. There are new and improved customization options, a shared seasonal progression system, drop-in enhancements including new kits, stadiums, and in-game options as well as so much more. A new era of football games awaits gamers with EA Sports FC set to be the new brand name going forward. Players will long cherish the memories of this legendary franchise and fingers will be firmly crossed their send-off lives up to the hype.
