New Job Posting Suggests Mario & Sonic Are Headed to the 2024 Olympics

Let's-a go to Paris!

Every four years, Nintendo and Sega gather together for an epic crossover sporting event that ties in with the actual Olympics. It’s looking like 2024 is no different. According to a new job listing, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games 2024 could be on its way later this year.

Mario and Sonic Olympic Games Job Listing

A recent job listing on Sega’s career site suggests that the Japanese publisher is looking for a Client Programmer. When translated, the website says that Sega is looking for a candidate with prior experience with last-gen consoles or high-end titles for Nintendo Switch or PC. In addition, Sega specifies that candidates must have action game development experience and Unreal Engine 4 skills.

Since 2007, the Mario and Sonic series has gathered both franchises with their respective characters to compete in Olympic-style events. The latest installment in the series was Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, which was released in 2019.

Skipping the Winter Games

Unfortunately, Nintendo didn’t bother releasing Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics Beijing 2022. Understandably, this game would have been developed when the COVID-19 virus was at its worst. However, Sega’s blue blur was kept busy in 2022, with Sonic’s first open-world game, Sonic Frontiers, being released along with Sonic Prime and the Sonic 2 movie hitting the big screen.

Hopefully, we will hear more about the next installment in the Mario and Sonic series ahead of the Paris 2024 games soon. For more on epic crossover sporting events, you got to keep it locked here on Sports Gamers Online.
