Today, Sony San Diego Studio (SDS) broadcast live on Twitch to demonstrate new hitting features in MLB The Show 20. Game designers broke down several new additions that will make offense more skill-based and less reliant on randomness in the upcoming game. MLB The Show 20 will release on March 13. Here’s a complete breakdown today’s “Perfect/Perfect” live stream.
MLB THE SHOW 20 HITTING CHANGES
The all-new perfect/perfect plate coverage indicator (PCI) feedback is the biggest addition to hitting in MLB The Show 20. Gone are the days of good swing timing and squared up PCI placement resulting in frustrating lineouts all game long. With perfect/perfect PCI feedback, the truly best swings will result in hits at a much higher rate.
According to developers, this result is difficult to achieve and most players will only receive it once or twice per game. However, the top echelon of online players could see this feedback far more often. There are three types of perfect/perfect swings: perfect grounder, perfect line drive and perfect fly ball. Here’s a look at each of them.
CUSTOMIZABLE PCI IN MLB THE SHOW 20
For the first time ever in MLB The Show, players will now have the ability to customize the way the PCI looks on their screen, beyond the generic options (e.g., reticle, wedge) that players are used to in the past. Below is a look at two different customized PCI examples.
When customizing your PCI, there are a variety of options to choose from. They are as follows:
- Plate coverage indicator on/off
- PCI Center shapes
- PCI Inner shape
- PCI outer shape
- PCI color
- PCI transparency (0 to 100% scale)
- PCI fadeout

Lastly, a new pitching quirk has been added for hurlers with the rare ability to throw fastballs at or above 100mph. Players like Aroldis Chapman, Jose Alvarado, Jordan Hicks and Noah Syndergaard will all see velocity increases to their hardest-thrown pitches, making pitchers like them even tougher to hit in MLB The Show 20.
BRAVES’ BIG THREE COMING TO THE SHOW
Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz were all announced as new legend additions to The Show 20. John Franco, Gary Sheffield, Shane Victorino and others were already revealed as new legends.
UPCOMING BROADCAST SCHEDULE
Here is a look at the upcoming schedule for live streams by SDS developers. There are still six more broadcasts before the release of MLB The Show 20.
