MLB The Show 21, the first game in the history of Sony San Diego’s baseball franchise to appear on Xbox consoles, will launch on Xbox Game Pass on April 20. The news was confirmed on Friday via Xbox Wire in a joint announcement from Microsoft and Major League Baseball.
Members subscribed to Xbox Game Pass will have access on both Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One when the game launches worldwide on April 20. Those who subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will be able to play the game on mobile Android devices via Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service.
“As we said from the beginning, this is an incredible moment for all of us and bringing the franchise to more players and baseball fans is something that we at MLB, MLB Players, Inc., and Xbox are all excited about,” Jamie Leece, MLB Senior Vice President of Games and VR, said. “We can’t wait for Xbox fans to experience the fastest, deepest, and most intense moment-to-moment baseball action yet. “
The move can be viewed as a bit surprising for some. The series has long been a PlayStation exclusive, so it’s understandable to think that Sony wouldn’t allow the game to appear on a competing service. Especially one that could take away from Sony’s own console.
MLB The Show 21 features cross-platform play across system and generations. Xbox One players can play PS5 players and PS4 players can play against Xbox Series X|S players.
